SINGAPORE – THROUGH THE EYES OF PHAM LUAN

Date  East Garden Foyer Gallery, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore. 1 Fullerton Square, Singapore 049178

Date  22 July 2015 - 05 August 2015

Renowned Vietnamese artist Pham Luan presents his newest collection of paintings in an exhibition entitled “Singapore – Through the Eyes of Pham Luan” to celebrate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee. The exhibition features 20 artworks capturing Luan’s impressions of Singapore in his signature style.

Singapore appears vividly on Pham Luan’s canvases. Inspired by the Impressionists, Pham Luan thrives in using light to enhance the landscape; painting at different times of the day to depict the varied quality of light. His confident depiction of light and shadow draws the viewers into each scene, inviting them to explore the scenery through his unique perspective.

Besides a distinct fascination with light, Pham Luan also has a keen interest in water and sky and is adept at using these elements in his paintings to elevate the landscapes. His attention to details and his sensitivity in portraying the nuances of changes in nature give his landscapes a sense of wonder, depth and romance. All of which beautifully reflects his own optimism and artistic pursuit of happiness.

Born and raised in Hanoi, Vietnam, Pham Luan has been painting the streets and landscapes of his hometown for over 30 years with many exhibitions held locally and overseas. Whilst travelling for his exhibitions, Luan often feels captivated by the quality of light in each and every place he visits and subsequently decides to recreate these foreign landscapes on his canvases. Such landscapes include that of New York, London, Venice, Paris and Hong Kong; and now, for the first time, Singapore. With his strong brushstrokes and brilliant palette, Luan has created a true celebration of a dynamic and vibrant Singapore.

“Singapore – Through the eyes of Pham Luan” opens on 22nd July 2015 at the East Garden Foyer Gallery at The Fullerton Hotel. The show continues until 5 August 2015.
